Welcome to the annual RLS Comfort Shoe Shopping Guide, usually our most popular blog post of the year! The goal of our comfort shoe guide is to show you our favorite comfort brands as well as our favorite styles. Comfort brands have a wide range of styles, some of them more “stylish” than others! Our goal as personal stylists is to get you in the most comfortable shoes possible without sacrificing your personal style.
This is all very personal to me of course, as I had foot surgery at 21, and have been dealing with the search for comfortable but stylish shoes ever since. This is one stylist who will never force you into heels! In fact, I gave up wearing heels even to evening events a few years ago. You do not have to wear 4″ heels with all of your outfits, but you do have to consider how your shoes affect your outfits. We teach our students in Stylist Studio, our personal stylist training program, that you almost need to dress your client from the shoe up. What kind of shoes a client can wear will greatly influence the silhouette of their wardrobe. It does not have to feel like a limitation, but it is always a consideration.
All of the brands below: Clarks, Cole Haan, Vionic, Naturalizer, Munro, Fit Flop, Anne Klein, Vaneli, AGL, The Flexx, and Paul Green, are brands that we sell our clients. A lot of the styles featured are ones we have tried on and or sold to our personal styling clients. But as I was just quoted in an article I wrote for a publication on comfort shoes, you have to figure out which comfort brand is comfortable for you. Go to a department store, or a few different ones since they carry different brands, and try on a bunch of styles from unfamiliar brands. I suggest Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Lord & Taylor. See which ones fit your particular foot the most and when you find the best few brands for you, feel free to stick with them.
