Happy 2016! What is your goal for the new year? Do you want to branch out and try new exciting things? Or maybe you want to slow down and tackle the modern stresses of your life? This year, Pantone decided they wanted to do both. For the first time ever, Pantone’s color of the year features two colors: Rose Quartz and Serenity. Also for the first time, Pantone is jumping on the gender fluidity trend by announcing that these are the colors of the year for both sexes.
The warm rose and cool blue represent balance, connection, wellness, order and peace. Who couldn’t use some of that in their life?

In Your Closet
Just like rose quartz and serenity, your closet is all about balance. As we like to tell people, your wardrobe should be like a cupcake, with equal parts frosting and cake. Your fun statement pieces are your frosting, while your basics are your cake. It is easiest to get dressed and create outfits when you have perfect balance of the two.
Balance is also important when playing with proportions. In recent seasons, oversized sweaters and wide leg pants have both come back into style. Together, the look is unflattering on the majority of people. But wide leg pants with a fitted top (or an oversized sweater with skinny jeans or leggings) looks more intentional and super chic.
You can choose to wear rose quartz and serenity separately, but together they make quite a statement. Here are my ideas for how to pair the two colors for any season (without looking like you’re headed to a baby shower).

I’m always excited to see what Sephora and Pantone put together for the color of the year collection. This year, their feature item is a lipstick in either Rose Quartz or Serenity. I give credit to any person who can wear blue lipstick without looking like an extra in Titanic. My favorite item from the collection is the Modern Watercolor Eyes Palette. How gorgeous is the cover? The palette includes Rose Quartz and Serenity along with 22 other complementary shades. I so want one!
If you’re not into lipstick or eyeshadow, try a swipe of the Serenity colored Stila Liquid Eyeliner across your lashline. The color adds a dramatic twist to your eye makeup that will break up the routine of a night-time smokey eye. Still too bold for you? A Rose Quartz or Serenity mani is just as fun.
