Who Says A Uniform Has To Be Boring?

.

OBSESSED. Seriously. Who wouldn’t love a dress that was designed to be comfortable, flattering and travel friendly? This combo usually results in a big, boring mess of a dress. But imagine if this combination came in always changing, limited edition African dutch wax prints that made you happy just thinking about them? Welcome to Zuri, created by American expats and friends, Sandra Zhao and Ashley Gersh Miller, while living in Nairobi, Kenya. Oh, and did I mention the business is run with the focus of supporting the local population in a sustainable fashion?

We’ve been talking a lot lately about the idea of a uniform, which again, usually equals sameness, resulting in wardrobe boredom for those of us who need to be inspired by our clothes. But what if you kept the same always flattering silhouette, thereby eliminating all wardrobe decisions other than which brilliant pattern shall I wear today? It is like taking out only the painful part of getting dressed (is my belly sticking out in this skirt?) and leaving all of the fun.  The brands hashtag? #justonedress

Do my readers know that I am obsessed with African/Indian/batik prints? I’ve always loved the idea of a western style in these exotic prints. I have a few dresses that I’ve managed to procure over the years, and even had a plain linen dress of mine copied in a gorgeous block print one of our State Department clients brought back for me from India. I’m hoping to have another one made this summer from another print I have.
