Must-Haves for Working From Home: House Shoes

Are you wearing shoes at home? It seems there are two camps out there, people who are wearing shoes to feel “dressed”, and those who have spent the entirety of the Covid-19 quarantine barefoot or in slippers. Two+ months in, your back will thank you for the support of some cute at-home shoes.

Pre-pandemic, the sneaker trend was supposedly on the wane in favor of high heels. But now…You know which brand’s sales have skyrocketed? Birkenstock, an RLS favorite.

Happy shopping!

Slip-on Sneakers

There is something so casual and laid-back about the slip-on sneaker. The simplicity and ease of the slip-on sneaker is way more appropriate right now than the fancy pants trendy “Dad” sneakers of past seasons. However, simple does not have to be boring. How about tie-dye or metallic? Comfort rules here but you will also be in style.

Sandals

Summer is the season of sandals of course. One, you want a comfortable sandal of course. Two, you want a sandal design you love and will keep on loving. Most of these sandal styles are classics, even if they have a little bit of pizzazz. Invest in a summer sandal you can wear for multiple seasons. I can’t pick a favorite, I love all of the choices below so much! I am particularly struck by the combination of comfort and chic neutrality of the Naturalizer Kellie Slide Sandal. Kyle and I are evangelists for the comfort of the Birkenstock Essentials Arizona Waterproof Slide Sandal. I’ve been obsessed with the FitFlop Pilar Leather Slide Platforms, $140 ever since we wrote The 2020 Spring Comfort Shoe Shopping Guide. And how cute is the rainbow colorway of Madewell’s The Meg Slide Sandal?

Slides and Mules

Mules have been a trend for a number of years now but I have not bitten because they are so specific a style, they just didn’t make sense to me. That doesn’t stop me from constantly lusting after cute pairs of mules for style’s sake! However, I can never justify the purchase with how few times I would wear them. Now that we are all home, mules suddenly seem so practical! And I bet everyone who invested in the Gucci shearing mule, the most decadent of them all, is feeling a little less silly.

Flats

Flats are a little bit more “shoe” than our other choices, but bear with me here 🙂 The secret to an at-home flat lies in it’s combination of comfort and style. You don’t need as much support as if you were walking 5 miles a day and you don’t want anything that is going to make too much noise for your downstairs neighbors. A flat does have the power of really making you feel “dressed” though, so don’t overlook this at-home shoe option.

Schutz Arissa Square Toe Ballet Flat, $119.95

Naturalizer Lorna Collapsible Heel Loafer, $88.95

Birdies The Starling, $140

Slippers

Or you could just wear slippers. I wear my mink sport slides, which are my version of slippers, all the time. I know many people living in their Ugg slippers, which keep your feet cozy and have great support. I’ve been lusting after the Jenni Kayne slippers all season but have not tried them on. How funny is the Loewe Embellished Foot Slipper? We just couldn’t help ourselves!

Jenni Kayne Suede Moroccan Slipper, $245

Jenni Kayne Shearling Mock Clog, $375

Ugg Shearling Slipper, $119.95
