This last trip to New York was so brief, I just couldn’t imagine dragging a rolling suitcase around with me for a 26 hour trip. The perfect solution? A backpack. “But wait, I don’t have a cute one,” I thought. I would have done some panic shopping but stopped myself with the same thought I always have about backpacks: as cute as they are, I don’t know if I will really use one. So I threw fashion to the wind and used my husband’s travel backpack from Osprey, which is part of a set we bought before a big trip to Thailand. At the time I had argued against something so unfashionable as a travel backpack, but of course once we were there I realized that my husband was correct in his purchase. Have you ever had to carry your suitcase (and your shoes) while jumping out of a boat and walking 50 feet through knee high water to the beach? The people with “fashionable” luggage had a much harder time than those of us with practical travel backpacks.
The verdict? Funny enough, the “practical” travel backpack hurt my back, but was a lot more practical than a rolling suitcase. I am now ready to purchase a “cute backpack.” What should I get, dear readers? My preliminary shopping list is below. I’m leaning towards the Pieces Lykke leather backpack because it is so chic, but I’m worried the leather will be too heavy. I love the look of the Eastpak Courreges backpack, but the Tumi has so many awesome pockets! Which is your favorite?
