Last year’s ugly sandal blog was so popular, we just had to do it again! The Spring 2014 trend centered around The Birkenstock and Adidas shower sandals. This year we have the appearance of Dr. Scholl’s inspired sandals, thanks to Marc Jacobs. We also have Teva look-alikes, like the Marni pair above, and a special reappearance by the shower sandal.
Oh, and if you are looking for the Marc Jacobs velvet (yes, velvet for summer!) faux-Dr. Scholl’s, they are only available for purchase directly from his boutique. This tells us that they were created mostly with the runway in mind, and that Mr. Jacobs did not have confidence that the greater public was going to go running out to purchase velvet Dr. Scholl’s for Spring/Summer.
Which trend do you think is ugliest and which do you think you might buy? For the record, the most affordable, cool, on trend sandal below is the Teva flatform. Happy Shopping!

The Dr. Scholl’s-Inspired Wedge Sandals
Who else is old enough to remember when Dr. Scholl’s sandals came back circa summer 1996? I can still remember barely making it from the subway back to my hovel on the Lower East Side, my feet were so damaged from walking ON WOOD all day. I mean, who really thinks these shoes are comfy? I think I threw them in the garbage after one day, feeling like a shamed fashion victim. Thankfully, I unearthed a pair of soft-soled ones at Wal-Mart (seriously!) and my feet were comfy and fashionable all summer. I also picked up a pair of flashier, platform wedge, Dr. Scholl’s inspired sandals in Chinatown, purchased on a dark, dank staircase leading to a basement under a food stall. At my current age, I think the Jimmy Choos would be the only appropriate option. #thosewerethedays #mylifeusedtobesoglamorous
