The Latest in High Fashion Wearable Tech

Wearable seems to be the new buzzword these days. Every news publication from CNN to Mashable to WWD has been writing about the predicted success of wearable technology. While I’ve already written about Apple’s hot item, the Apple Watch, and I own a Fitbit, I’m most excited to see what designers plan to do with the new technology. Aside: As a dedicated watch wearer, I love the idea of the Apple Watch because it is actually a watch! I had an Apple iPod Nano watch (best Mother’s Day gift ever!) which I absolutely loved, until it broke right after the warranty expired. Go figure.

Opening Ceremony

The MICA, or My Intelligent Communication Accessory, is a gorgeous bracelet on its own. Add in the fact that it can deliver text messages, Gmail notifications, calendar alerts, and tell you when to leave for your appointments, and you’ll realize why this 18-karat gold bracelet could become a necessity. Very interesting when a boutique known for being on the cutting edge of fashion gets into the wearable tech game on their own.

Rebecca Minkoff

Originally set to release for the 2014 holiday season, the Rebecca Minkoff line of wearables has been highly anticipated. The line will include a gold chain-link bracelet that connects to your phone and lights up when you receive a call or text and a lightning cable bracelet to connect your phone to a USB outlet. If you want to get on the waitlist, call one of the stores and they will give you a call when they are released!

Ringly

As if they were not already beautiful on their own, Ringly’s 18K gold plated rings can connect to your iPhone to notify you of phone calls, texts, and emails without having to check your phone. You can choose which contacts come through and, with the different vibration patterns, you’ll be able to choose which calls to take. Just seven months after its launch, Ringly has raised $5.1 million in funding to increase its product range and beef up manufacturing. Their first designer collaboration will launch later this year, with no sign as to who the partner will be just yet. Stay tuned!

Gucci x Will.i.am

At a press conference at Baselworld, the watch industry’s leading international trade show, Will.i.am announced his latest fashion collaboration. The musician has teamed up with Gucci to create a smartband that can pair to any phone through bluetooth. This watch will not only send and receive phone calls, texts and emails, but it will also hold music, maps and your calendar. On top of all of that, it is also a fitness tracker.
