This or That: The Office Cardigan

Ah, the dreaded office cardigan. This is one of my favorite items to “replace” for clients. I will pick up a faded, slightly pilled, black or grey cardigan and ask, “What is this?” “But that’s just my office cardigan!”, the client will say, as if just because it wasn’t part of their intentional outfit of the day, it does not have to uphold the same standards.

Even if you only wear your cardigan in the office due to unduly freezing air conditioning, this does not mean it doesn’t have to look cute. I suggest purposefully buying the best cardigan you can, not picking out the oldest one in your closet, and using that as the O.C. Yes, you could do the chic cardigan below from J. Crew, but you could also step it up a notch and wear a knit blazer like this one from Joie. A knit blazer is just as comfortable and forgiving as a cardigan, but it is infinitely more professional and put-together. In case I have to spell it out for some of you, wearing the knit blazer instead of the cardigan will make YOU look infinitely more professional and put-together.

I’m so glad we understand each other now :)
