Your Perfect Work Pants

This post on perfect work pants is part of The Five Must-Have Pieces for Your Work Wardrobe series.

Shopping for the perfect work pants that fit and flatter can be overwhelming. Unwilling to endure the search for the “perfect” pair, many women wear the same threadbare black pants to work for years.

Stop the madness! Use our guide to find the best pairs in the market for various budgets. Although not all-encompassing, this blog will help you find fresh, comfortable, and well-fitting tailored pants. Stress not included!

Comfort and style can coexist. Remember, one perfect pair of pants is worth more than eight mediocre pairs. Do the work. We promise it will be worth it.

Abercrombie

Believe it or not, the trending pants right now are from Abercrombie and Fitch. Their Sloane pant comes in a standard and curvy version, with linen and short styles available for the spring/summer.

Their wide-leg trousers feel updated and so cool to wear with your “formal” sneakers or boots (and come in over 10 colors!). And if you’re looking for a black pair of pants that is anything but basic, the belted trousers look like they could be from a high-end designer.

Eloquii is a bit famous for its Kady pants. These well-fitting, tailored pants in stretch fabric come in three different body fits for women sizes 14-28. The Kady pant comes in fun fashion colors and the basics. Eloquii is rocking the market with trendy, wearable, affordable plus-size clothes.

Favorite Daughter

Another trending pant silhouette, pleated, comes from Favorite Daughter. A newer brand from Erin and Sara Foster, Favorite Daughter makes simple silhouettes that are on-trend and easy to wear.

Nic + Zoe

Nic and Zoe Wonderstretch pants are the superheroes of business casual pull-on pants. Our top picks of the many variations are the original Wonderstretch Straight Pant and the Polished Wonderstretch Wide Leg Crop Pant. A lot of the styles come in petite and plus sizes. Ladies, these pants are magical.

Nic + Zoe Wonderstretch Straight Pant, $60 (Available in petites and plus up to size 24W)

NYDJ ponte trousers have been a stylist’s staple for years. They come in petite and plus sizes, and multiple silhouettes. These pants run a bit big and have a lot of stretch, so make sure you buy them nice and snug. NYDJ ponte trousers feel super cozy but look truly professional. Hard to fit? These are your pants.

Recently, we’ve been loving the NYDJ Pull-On Flared Trouser, which is part of NYDJ’s Sculpt-Her line. Who doesn’t love a leg-lengthening silhouette that feels like leggings? Because of their popularity, both styles can go in and out of stock, so check the NYDJ and Nordstrom websites regularly.

NYDJ Sculpt-Her Classic Trousers, $89

Pari Passu

Pari Passu makes plus-size clothing for three different body types: straight cut, hourglass, and curvy cut. These are made from a high-quality suiting wool with a bit of stretch. Think of this brand as the Theory pant for plus size.

Pari Passu Greer Classic Pants, $350

Quince

Quince makes low-cost basics straight from the factory, cutting out middle-man inflation. Each time we’ve sent Quince options to clients, they’ve reacted skeptically to the low prices. “Would we ever tell you to buy clothes that were bad quality?” we counter, “Just trust us.” The client was pleasantly surprised each time and went back to order more!

Quince Ultra-Stretch Ponte Bootcut Pant, $40 (Comes in petite and tall, as well as a straight leg cut)

Quince Stretch Crepe Classic Trouser Pant, $70

Spanx

The magic of Spanx now comes in pants. This is it if you’re looking for a smoothing pant that looks modern and stylish. All styles come in regular, plus, and tall! We love the Spanx Perfect Pant in the Wide-Leg style and the matching Perfect Blazer.

Theory

Theory has long been our go-to for work pants for all clients. Interestingly, Theory especially fills a need for both petite and tall women. We recommend the Treeca Pant for more petite women, which comes in flannel wool, linen, and their gorgeous dressier crepe. The Demetria Pant works great for taller women and only comes in the crepe fabric on Bloomingdales. Our new favorite is the Hi-Waist Straight, which gives an effortless cropped silhouette. Theory typically runs small, in sizes from 00-18.
