Working Women of DC Rejoice, MM.LaFleur is Here

.

Do you remember when I went to the MM.LaFleur pop-up shop at the Jefferson Hotel?  Exactly a year ago, I set up an appointment to try on some of my favorite offerings from the online shop. I was beyond impressed with the quality and fit of the clothes. While there, their stylist mentioned that they were looking to set up a permanent DC location (because let’s be honest, no other city so desperately needs attractive professional clothing). And on March 15th, after eight pop-ups in DC, they’ve opened the showroom at 1424 K St NW, one block from the McPherson Square metro.

The Washington Post review of the new showroom accurately describes the difficulty of shopping for business attire in today’s retail landscape. “Mid-price stalwarts such as Ann Taylor and Banana Republic seem to be operating with a broken fashion compass. Department stores are chasing hard after shinier objects, trying to win over millennials with trendy casual clothes.” And the number one reason why most of our clients shop at places like Ann Taylor? “It’s across the street from my office,” they say as they ambivalently hold up last season’s worn-to-death blouse. MM.LaFleur knows this too well, as the Post further explains that “the way to get into the closets of Washington’s overscheduled lawyers, government contractors and nonprofit executives isn’t via a posh storefront in Georgetown or Tysons Corner. Instead, plant the store in their natural habitat, so they can dash in on the way home from a client meeting or when they have a spare hour before a networking event.”

Lani and I haven’t made it into a store yet, but based off our experience shopping online for our clients, it sounds like this showroom will be heaven for DC women. Ready to try it for yourself? Make an appointment with a stylist! The stylists in the showroom can pull recommendations for you, or pull any pieces you have your eye on already. Don’t have time for an in-person appointment? You can still order a bento box free of charge. A stylist will pick 4-6 pieces based on your body type, style, and needs and ship them to you. You’re only billed for what you decide to keep.
