Workleisure: The New Dress Code

What is Workleisure, you ask? Workleisure are clothes that feel and act like exercise clothes, but look like work clothes. Think Athleisure, but for work. Is Workleisure the post-business casual dress code? I sure hope so. This dress code lets you look and feel chic, yet allows for a spontaneous lunchtime yoga session or walk in the park. That’s a win for both employers and employees.

Below you will find some of Real Life Style’s favorite Workleisure brands for women. Stay tuned for a men’s only edition!

Happy Shopping!

Athleta

We are huge fans of Athleta’s high-quality, high-fashion pieces for Workleisure and weekend. As you may know, we have been wearing their blazers ourselves for years now. In fact, I’m thrilled they have released the new Avenue Blazer because I’m in the market for a new Workleisure blazer.

We’ve also been touting the magic of the Athleta city pants for every occasion. The items featured below are truly just a small sample of the Athleta pieces we have been styling on our clients the past few seasons. We encourage you to check out the entire line yourself!

Athleta Avenue Blazer, $198

Athleta Zephyr Tank, $55.99

Athleta Brooklyn Ankle Pant, $89

Athleta Urbanite Top 2.0, $119

Athleta Stellar Skinny Trouser, $129

Athleta Nolita Wide Leg Pant, $98

MM.LaFleur

Once reserved strictly for formal office attire, MM.LaFleur pivoted perfectly during the pandemic. Their Jardigans are now available in Workleisure silhouettes like the Colette, with an adorable belt and hood. They even have a line of t-shirts, made for dressing down. Wear them with MM.LaFleur’s technical pants and jackets, dubbed “OrigamiTech,” for their ability to be folded, packed, and washed without wrinkles.

MM.LaFleur Alina T-Shirt, $55

MM.LaFleur Moreland Jacket, $295

MM.LaFleur Foster Pant, $210

MM.LaFleur Colette Jardigan, $245

MM.LaFleur Rogala Stretch Culotte, $225

Aday

We have featured Aday on the blog before. Their suiting is made with wrinkle free, machine washable, stretchy fabric. And all of their clothing aims to be technical, seasonless, and sustainable. If that isn’t enough, the clothes are super stylish but minimalist. You can’t get more Workleisure than that! In fact, I’m dying to order a box of “all the things” and try them all on myself. However, I’m afraid I’ll want to keep everything!

Aday Super Swish Midi Dress, $225

Aday Easy Days Pants, $155

Aday Home Stretch Pullover, $155

Aday First Class Satin Top, $95

Aday Strategy Blazer, $245

Aday Something Borrowed Dress, $195

Spanx

If you want a flattering, comfortable work pant or legging, Spanx has it. They also have tops and jackets now. We love that all of their clothing is stretchy and machine washable. Are you thinking, “Spanx clothing can’t be very comfortable!” But it is, we swear! Spanx clothing is super functional, stylish, and yes, comfortable. Most importantly, you will feel and look amazing.

Spanx Perfect Length Top, $58

Spanx Perfect Pencil Skirt, $118

Spanx V-Neck Racerback Cami, $68

Spanx Drape Front Jacket, $178

Spanx Perfect Pant in Hi-Rise Flare, $148

Spanx Perfect Pant in Slim Straight, $138

Buki

We discovered Buki at the Betsy Fisher Pop-Up shop, where our clients loved the Barcelona Shirt for it’s temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking fabric. Pair it with the Easy Street Stretch Chino Pant and you can walk the kids to school, then go straight into your first Zoom meeting without changing. Back in the office? Take a mind-clearing walk at lunchtime without worrying that you are sweating in your “work clothes”.

Buki A-Liner Dress, $228

Buki Barcelona Shirt, $178

Buki Easy Street Stretch Chino Pant, $178

Ministry of Supply

Ministry of Supply prides themselves on fabrics that are “designed, built and tested to perform.” You could argue that they were one of the first in the Workleisure movement. Read all about the design details that complete their performance clothing.

Ministry of Supply Women’s Composite Merino Tank, $48

Ministry of Supply Women’s Kinetic Blazer, $378

Ministry of Supply Women’s Fusion Straight Leg Pant, $138
