9 Thoughtful Gifts for the Person with Enough Stuff

Am I the only one who wants more stuff going out than coming in? This time of year is a challenge for everyone, but especially in my house with both kids’ birthdays and the holidays in the same month. A lot of families are trying to solve the “stuff” problem by giving each other experiences. Last year the cousins we were staying with over the holidays gave us a “redeem now” gift certificate of a dinner at a cool new place in town while they watched our kids. Brilliant! We’ve compiled some experience ideas for your list. We hope you find them useful!

Happy Holidays,

small first name

P.S. Experience gifts are also great for last minute shopping as you can usually print them out from the website and put them in an envelope!

For your best mommy friend

Is it just me, or are any other moms unable to fit “hobbies” into their schedule? I used to love making jewelry and even “started” a honeymoon scrapbook before the munchkins came into my life. Schedule some time for yourself and a friend to head to The Lemon Bowl on Georgia Ave in DC. They have classes for making vision boards, crocheting, learning hand-lettering, building terrariums, and more. Some classes even have “bestie” discounts to save on a package for two people. You’ll get to focus on being creative and spend quality time together for a few hours!

 For the fitness junkie

Solidcore is the workout of choice for triathletes, super runners, and unathletic people like me who just have no time. There is no more effective workout out there for the time and money. Help someone fulfill their New Year’s resolution with a gift certificate to the workout tough enough for Michelle Obama. There are now studios EVERYWHERE so you have no excuse.

For your fearless friends

Michael and I took a Flying Trapeze lesson at The Trapeze School New York DC for our anniversary a few years ago, which is a big deal considering we are both afraid of heights. Not being the daredevil type, this was the scariest and coolest thing I have EVER done. We bought a flash drive of pictures of ourselves but I’ve never had the nerve to look! Even if you can’t manage to fly through the air a few stories high (and outside!), the TSNYDC offers classes in Silks, Static Trapeze , Circus and Acrobatics for kids, and more.

For the fashionista

How many astrologists have been featured in Vogue and have their own line of nail polish? Rose Theodora is a fashionable, and beautiful, color astrologist. Read more here about the color reading I had with her last year. That reminds me, I am due for another one! That’s a hint if anyone still has to give me a gift 🙂 Want a taste of your colorscope? Click through to Rose’s Instagram to read all about plum and it’s engaging and nurturing qualities.

For the person who wants to get organized

I’m sure you know at least one person who’s New Year’s resolution is to finally get organized. Rachel Rosenthal’s Organized in a Box comes with adorable organizing trays (we use the purple ones in our office), the other items pictured above, and a playbook full of information and actionable steps to get the spring cleaning started early!

For the new era of book worms

I’ve written extensively about my dependance upon listening to audiobooks on Audible as a way to pass the time while doing the dishes and “read” books while sitting in traffic. An audible subscription would make a great gift for the people in your life with long commutes, no time or energy to read, or impaired eyesight that might make it difficult to read for long periods of time.

For your creative kids

.

.

Okay, where was this when I was a kid? I would have begged for classes like this! Creative Youth in Bethesda offers sewing and fashion design classes for kids aged 7-17. Plus, all materials are included with the class fees, so you don’t have to worry about running out to get fabric. Purchase a gift card on their website.

For your teenage daughter

Did anybody else spend most of middle school and high school applying makeup in a totally embarrassing fashion? You’ll win serious “cool mom points” when you treat your daughter (or niece, cousin, etc.) to makeup lessons and shopping. Sephora now offers free 90 minute teen makeup classes where she’ll learn how to highlight her best features with natural makeup. You can then purchase the products used in the class.

And while this gift is great for young women, women of all ages could benefit from learning a simple everyday makeup routine. Real Life Style’s very own makeup artist Alison Woolworth is amazing at teaching women of all ages how to apply makeup to flatter their face. She will even take you shopping for new makeup!
