The Grammys 2019: The Fashion Highlights

I can not even remember the last time I watched the Grammys. I think I got to that certain age where I knew so few of the people nominated that watching the Grammys just became an exercise in feeling old. But I’ve always loved the non-Rap performances, the sometimes jaw-dropping fashion statements, and Alicia Keys was hosting, so I decided to make an effort to watch the show.

By watch I mean set the DVR so that I could start watching it at 9pm when the kids finally went to bed! I expected to be shocked by some outfits, and I was rendered confused by some of the more interesting outfits, but I was also surprised by how many outfits I just loved. See a few of Kyle and my favorites below!

Which were your favorite outfits? Can you use the looks you love as inspiration the next time you need to get dressed up?

Tracee Ellis Ross has always been incredibly chic and this night was no exception. I was so OBSESSED with her green suit that I started thinking I should buy one for myself. The picture below does not do it justice at all but trust me, it was amazing.

Does Anna Kendrick not look like her animated alter ego, Poppy the Troll? I’m going to digress for a second here. Have you seen the movie Trolls? Even if you don’t have kids, you have to see it. The characters are hysterical, the music is infectious, and the lessons important. Mr. Real Life Style was dying laughing at me when I couldn’t get over how good the movie was. He thought the only reason I thought so was because I rarely sit and watch a movie, so my love must just come from not having watched a kids movie in so long.

So….I actually loved this outfit. Miley seemed to be channeling Led Zeppelin in the seventies, but added a modern, feminine twist with her layers of fabulous jewelry. I am normally not into Miley’s always half-naked look, but for some reason I find her Grammys 2019 look so authentic that her lack of a shirt does not bother me. (Can you guess how many people asked me what I thought of Miley’s Saturday Night Live “wearing a tracksuit but still naked look”?)

Oh Michelle. You can do no fashion wrong. Gosh that woman is tall. I loved her “not a gown” look. By contrast, I thought Alicia Keys was not dressy enough. I love her no makeup natural look and Pucci scarf-wrapped hair, but I think a more sparkly head wrap or outfit would have been appropriate. Speaking of not being dressed up enough, Mr. Real Life Style was very confused as to why Michelle Obama seemed to be wearing sparkly pajamas. I told him it was in style to look like you were wearing your pajamas. He said, “Well your boyfriend jeans are in style too but they don’t look good either.” Snap!

This picture says it all!

I love how the women all seem so comfortable in their skin, feeling pretty and powerful in their outfits.

Who would have expected a country singer to have the sleekest, most minimal outfit in the house? Just stunning.

I just bought a pair of metallic brocade pink and purple pants to wear out for my birthday next weekend, and this outfit totally reaffirmed my style choice. I just think it is perfectly balanced between dressy and rock and roll!

Camila Cabello looked like an ultra chic Barbie doll, and I’m here for it. And of course, all the sex appeal comes from the open back that you can’t see from this picture! I think it is totally appropriate for her new role as an adult solo artist, mature and beautiful compared to her teenage pop group looks.
