Spring 2015: The Season of the Seventies
.
We are kicking off Real Life Style’s Spring 2015 Trend Month with THE trend of the season, The Seventies. This funky, free-spirited decade has been featured on the runway for multiple seasons in a row, but this year almost every spring trend can trace its roots back to the 1970’s. I’d also like to clarify, for all of you non-fashion industry peeps out there, that there are only two fashion season a year, spring and fall. Therefore, when i say spring I really mean spring and summer, and when I say fall, i mean fall and winter.
Here are the three building blocks to the Seventies look for spring:
.
1. Something in Suede
.
A rainbow of suede was all over the runway. Truly embrace the trend with a belted suede dress, like the above picture from Altuzarra’s spring collection, or keep it simple with accessories, such as suede shoes or a purse. I love a suede jacket as a winter-to-spring transition piece, especially over a dress! I hope that suede being a SPRING trend this year will stop people from constantly asking me if they can wear suede in spring, and then arguing with me once I answer. For the last time please, yes you can wear suede in the spring and summer! Looking for something a little lighter? Try ultrasuede. Can’t wait to break out my vintage sleeveless ultrasuede jacket! I love to wear it in the summer over a chic black maxidress and flat black sandals. Oh I’m so accidentally in style I just can’t stand myself… PS This vest might be one of the only items left in my closet from college!

2. Wide Leg and Flared Jeans
.
Believe it or not, high-rise flared jeans are finally back. Don’t worry, your favorite skinnies will be in style for many more seasons. But if you’re looking for a new pair of jeans to switch up your casual wardrobe, then these should be your next purchase! Take your style cues from Karlie Kloss, the queen of flared jeans. The model’s signature look is a fitted t-shirt with a pair of super long denim hemmed to completely cover her feet, making her legs look forever long. Well, she doesn’t need much help considering she is 6’1! Now you can give the illusion that your legs are as long as Karlie’s with her line of flares from Frame denim. Believe it or not, I had MATERNITY jeans from Seven for All Mankind just like these, but super soft and more faded. They were not at all in style when I bought them but I didn’t care because I loved them. These jeans were the one maternity item that I was sad not to wear anymore after the fourth trimester. You know, the one right after you have the baby? Guess now I have a good excuse for a new pair!

3. Fringed Accessories
.
Fringe was named “The Trend That Will Not Die” in The Cut’s spring trend report. They weren’t wrong! Fringe has been adorning purses and booties for many seasons now. However I can’t help but lust after Valentino’s tasseled tote or Saint Laurent’s bucket bag. At least we know that the fringed designer purses have staying power! Scroll down for a few more affordable versions too.
