Spring 2015 Trend #2: Military Style 101

trend 2

Military garb has been one of my favorite trends for the past few years. From my studded army parka to my children’s camo-covered clothes, my sartorial love of all things military-inspired has only grown after watching the spring runway shows. The utilitarian design of lots of pockets and looser fitting clothes is a great trend for moms too. Just tell your husband this trend does not include his baggy, 10 year-old khaki cargo pants!

.

These are your three trend staples:

1. Camo Anything!

Camouflage print can be super fashionable when paired with the right pieces. The print doesn’t have to be literal either. Check out the digital camo print blouse below. Keep it grown up by matching a silk blouse with a blazer, jeans, and booties. Not sure if you are ready to commit? Try a camo accessory.

2. A Field Jacket

An army-green field jacket is one of my favorite winter-to-spring transition pieces. Was your dad in the army? Then do what I did and steal his original! I had one of my funniest fashion moments ever when I bumped into a window-dresser at Bergdorf Goodman wearing the exact matching field jacket to mine. You could have knocked me over with a feather when he opened his mouth to speak with a heavy Italian accent! Turns out he had appropriated his jacket from his American father-in-law. This season I’m going to add a Wounded Warriors patch (a gift for a donation) to mine.

3. Utilitarian Bags

Whether made for fashion or function, bags with straps, flaps and handles are on trend this spring. While the Proenza Schouler PS1 has been popular for the past few years, the Filson Briefcase has been popular for the past few decades. Each bag will look practical and chic holding your files during your morning commute. Oh how I love a classic accessory!
