This season, we’re all about the functional trends. Our last post covered this season’s shoe trends with comfort in mind. This week, we’ve decided to hone in on another trend that has caught our eye: the trench coat. Everywhere we look, trenches are in stores and online. And now that it’s finally fall trench coat weather, it’s time to buy a new and updated version of the wardrobe staple! Each brand has its version of the trend, which can be daunting when sifting through all the options. As always, we are here to help, having compiled our favorite and the most unique trench coat looks we’ve seen.
Happy Shopping!

Cropped Trench Coats
I know; it seems like everything is cropped these days: pants, shirts, and now, trench coats! It’s a new take on the old classic full-length trench. The cropped trench coat offers a fun and sportier look than a traditional trench coat. Like the & Other Stories short trench coat jacket, most cropped trenches have a boxier frame. Do you prefer some waist definition on your cropped trench? Check out the Favorite Daughter or Velvet by Graham and Spencer jackets with a belt for a nicely cinched waist!
Full-Length Trench Coats and Trench Capes
Perhaps you prefer a full or standard-length trench coat with a little flare. The options in this section go beyond the standard trench found in every store. They have an interesting detail that sets them apart, come in a unique color or fabric, or have a cape! For instance, the COS layered double-breasted trench coat comes with a removable khaki-green lapel, and the Sandro Matilda trench has a pleated bottom and an exciting pattern. If you’re a sucker for a colorful trench, how incredible is the Dries Van Noten Ronald Paint Stroke trench? The colors! The Texture! We love it!
As for the trench cape options, the Cuyana trench cape is what inspired the creation of this blog to begin with. It is so chic and the collar wrapping detail is beyond cool. If you need a trench cape in a darker color to fit your wardrobe color palette, & Other Stories has this oversized trench cape that is similar to the Cuyana cape, but in navy!

Okay so I think the jcrew one is for me!! but i’m loving the bloomingdale one too. Choices? Choices?
They are so different! The Vero Moda one is denim, so definitely more of a fashion piece. The reason the J.Crew trench is so great is that it is super functional, well-fitting, and really chic. Check out all of the colors too! If you have a great raincoat already, go for the denim!
