Have you found a bathing suit trend you want to try this summer? I was euphoric when I heard that our neighborhood pool was going to be open this summer. Then I realized that I better make sure I have a bathing suit that fits!
The bathing suits I purchased in 2019 while crafting the 3 Secrets to Swimsuit Shopping blog no longer fit. Updated trends, new silhouettes, and fun patterns to the rescue! Keep reading to see what Kyle and I will be wearing poolside this summer.
For those in the market, please refer back to 3 Secrets to Swimsuit Shopping. That blog remains full of super useful information, even if all the shopping links don’t work. I highly recommend it as a compliment to this one.
Let us know which bathing suit trend you will try this summer in the comments below!
Happy Shopping!

Color Blocking
This is my new bathing suit!!! I am currently obsessed with the aqua/turquoise/mint color combo. Recently I had to let go of a very worn Alberta Ferretti blue/green color block dress. Buying this color block Lands’ End Scoopneck Sporty One-Piece Swimsuit and matching ombré Cotton Jersey Sleeveless Swim Cover-Up was a bit of a consolation. Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals in silver complete my fresh pool look, which is getting lots of compliments!
Lands’ End Scoopneck Sporty One-Piece Swimsuit, $54.95
Lands’ End Cotton Jersey Sleeveless Swim Cover-Up Dress, $34.95
Birkenstock Arizona EVA, $44.95
Asymmetrical
I love, love, love the asymmetrical trend! I have a one-shouldered, asymmetrical bathing suit like this that I consider super glamorous. However, Mr. Real Life Style hates it! I can’t figure out why. Go figure. Wait till I tell him it no longer fits. I may just have to try this Summersalt bathing suit and stunning Vix Gisele Short Caftan. This whole look is perfect for vacation. You’re all set to head straight from the pool to dinner! Yes, I know $350 Christian Louboutin Flip-Flops are insane. But I couldn’t resist!
Summersalt Ruched Sidestroke, $95
Christian Louboutin Loubi Flip, $350
Brights and Neons
Kyle got this Andie Havana Top and High Waisted Cheeky Bottom in Neon Lemon last year! The question is, will she get the matching Freedom Moses Bahia Two-Strap Slides this year? Have you tried Moses sandals yet? The colors and patterns are out of this world. I have tried them on. They are super comfy and very substantial. However, they don’t have the arch support of my Birkenstock EVAs.
Andie Havana Top in Neon Lemon, $55
Andie High Waisted Cheeky Bottom, $40
Becca by Rebecca Virtue Striped Fringe Tie-Front Kimono, $84
Freedom Moses Bahia Two-Strap Slides, $50
Statement Tops
This year, Kyle went with a Ruffle Bikini Top! I love the idea of the statement top bathing suit trend, as we all come out of our shells for summer 2021. The silhouette of the Zara High-Waisted Bikini Bottoms seems super flattering. Balance out the ruffles with The Vanity Room Tie-Front Tulip Skirt. Add some glamour with the Frances Valentine Gardenia Sandal and you are ready to reemerge.
Zara Large Ruffle Bikini Top, $29.90
Zara High-Waisted Bikini Bottoms, $25.90
The Vanity Room Tie-Front Tulip Skirt, $68
Frances Valentine Gardenia Sandal, $148
Ribbed and Scrunched Textures
Some women swear by the flattering silhouette of ribbed and scrunched textures. Have you tried them? How affordable and cute is this Kona Sol Ribbed Square Neck Cap Sleeve Medium Coverage One Piece Swimsuit from Target? Hurry though. As always, sizes are going fast. Shop the rest of the colorful, size inclusive Kona Sol line here.
Kona Sol Ribbed Square Neck Cap Sleeve Medium Coverage One Piece Swimsuit, $39.95
Dotti Poplar Skies Cotton Bell Sleeve Tunic Cover-Up, $64
Teva Hurricane Drift Sandal, $40
