I was #OBSESSED with the Gucci bird coat last fall (as seen here on Dakota Johnson, lover of all things Gucci). The price tag was definitely of the “if you have to ask” variety, so I decided to try to recreate the idea on my own. I already owned a plain black designer overcoat from Philosophy, I just needed to find the right applique. I knew exactly where to get it, M&J Trimming in New York of course! As mentioned in this blog previously, I rarely have time to shop for myself when I’m in New York. That same trip that had Kyle and I finally doing a big Uniqlo shop and finding the parts for my DIY Wooden Necklace, produced the Hamsa applique I decided upon. All of this was done in about 2 hours! Did I mention that we are professional shoppers?

That’s me in my new coat! In case you didn’t know, there is no such thing as an iron-on patch that works. At least for me! You have to sew them on if you want your item to look authentic. I brought mine to a very good seamstress who charged me around $20 to sew it on. I was slightly horrified at the cost until I got it back looking like I bought the coat with the patch on it.

What do you think? Do you like it? I hope I’ve inspired you to create your own dream coat! I can hardly wait for winter now!
